Mark stood next to the stretcher in the ambulance, having called 911 as soon as he realized what was going on. He was a doctor, and as logic would dictate, the earlier he got her to the hospital the better. He was already feeling ridiculously guilty, allowing it to wash over him in waves. He had taken advantage of her willingness. He had caused this problem, as far as he was concerned. He had let himself down, and he didn't even want to THINK about Lexie at the moment, because he knew he wouldn't be able to deal with that.
Even as an accomplished surgeon, he wasn't exactly sure what was wrong with her. Mark had never bothered to run health exams before sleeping with people, but it certainly was looking like a realistic solution. The trip wouldn't be too long. His apartment was across the street from Seattle Grace, but the hotel he was staying at was a little further away. He scowled again, realizing how terrible this was going to look, when he showed up at the ambulance entrance in a disheveled button up shirt and jeans.
He didn't say anything to the woman in front of him, but instead, Mark distracted himself by discussing her vitals with the EMT. He had saved Alex Karev's life only two weeks earlier. He was a doctor, he wasn't supposed to be the reason why others were in the hospital, unless of course they were there to see him, because he was a plastics god. But that really wasn't the situation in question, and he groaned. This whole situation was terrible. Mark couldn't believe how stupid he had been. He was thankful when they got to the hospital and the back doors were opened, ready to treat Annie.

For Annie it had been all to familiar as soon as she knew, she'd tried to get out of the room silently. Her pride made her want to leave, she couldn't face Mark seeing her so helpless. Bad enough she'd let him see her scarred body, a mess of twisted flesh much like the effect on melted plastic, with the occasional straight line of a deep blade. She'd managed to stumble and slip on some of her clothes again, but the pain was twisting like a serrated blade in her defective heart. She'd tried to tie her blue silk wrap- over top over, but the pain had built up, her mental walls could not hold it any longer as it overflowed causing her legs to gave way, a whimpering cry issuing from her lips. Not a yelp or a scream, just a whimper. Half dressed, she had laid semi-curled as her hand sought to ease her pain. Trying to focus her eyes, but the pain doubled and faded it a little. Scrabbling across the floor she had tried to get back up to her tiny feet, but her body thudded back down. Half rolled on her back she'd been aware of Mark around her, but was unable to track his movements. She'd tried to protest when she'd heard Mark calling 911, but everything she said was filled with the agony she was in. When the ambulance crew had come, she tried to fight but it had been feeble and eventually she gave in. It had been difficult starting an IV, the scar tissue was just so thick, but it allowed her time to tell them not to give her morphine because of her allergy. Laying prostrate in the ambulance, her body largely concealed by a blanket, she breathed in oxygen through a mask that fitted snugly on her face. From moment to moment she could feel consciousness wanting to slip away from her, but she was too stubborn to let it get away. Her heart beating, trying to be different from every other heart, but it's change of pace wasn't helping her any. Turning her eyes slowly she looked at Mark, blinking slowly. She didn't blame him for not wanting to look at her, she bet no date had ever done this to him. She knew he'd done the right thing by her, but she still didn't want to go, but if she had to she would make only one demand.
"Altman... tell them to page Altman... no one else, but her or I will refuse treatment."
It was no empty threat, Annie would do it, she's already tried to fight them off. Radioing ahead, them message was relayed onward to the hospital. When she felt the ambulance stop, she started to panic further, rising as the doors opened. Annie didn't want anyone to know, she wanted to keep this a secret and she hoped that it would only be Altman she saw, maybe some nurses as well but she didn't want any other doctors there. She didn't want too many to know about her condition.

Alexis wandered through the hospital her pager silently moving against her body. This meant something bad there was never a moment when the junior cardiothoracic surgeon could get peace. And when she finally did get that moment of peace, it meant something was up. Alexis was kicking herself as she heard the shouts from the pit she knew if she didn't move fast she would have another Denny incident on her hands. Stupid Interns you leave them alone for one minute and they end up killing somebody. Swearing quietly to herself Alexis took off at a run, her long blonde hair spiralling out behind her as she burst into the door of Exam room one.
Alexis blinked seeing Annie strung out semi naked on the exam room bed with her adopted brother Mark in a dishevelled shirt pacing. Wordlessly she took in the dark, twisted flesh before shrugging and pulling out her stethoscope. Maybe it wasn't always the idiot interns that made mistakes. She gave Mark a meaningful glance nodding her head at the door, checking Annie's vitals before paging Teddy a 911.

It had been reletively quiet in the ambulance, compared to inside the walls of the hospital. People moving around her, while she felt each agaonzing pump of her heart hit her. For a moment she tried to predict it but it was unpreditable and it just made it feel all the more painful. Even set aside in a exam room, she felt on display. Her weakness and scars all there for show. If she had the strength she would have told Mark to stop pacing, but all she could manage was to breath in and out the oxygen. Her sapphire eyes flickered up sudedenly aware of Alexis presence and her eyes. A small movement to try and move away, but it jsut caused more pain and her heart to protest further, so Annie had to give in and settled back. She saw the glance toward Mark and she let out a sound trying to speak up, but came out more like a grunt of pain.

"Wow Slow down Annie, I got this." Alexis rushed over reassuring the older woman. Carefully she began pressing the tender flesh around her heart. "Annie I need you to tell me where it hurts." She breathed in and out carefully as not to show her alarm at the other woman's condition. Alexis pulled her hair back into a ponytail. The signature sign that a long and grueling surgery was ahead. Alexis cocked her head to one side, she knew that Annie would never allow a surgical team to operate, but maybe just to or three people? "Mark get out!" she ordered. The pacing was really starting to annoy her. Annie needed peace and his feverish pacing was starting to set her patient more and more on edge.

Annie tried to protest further, she didn't want Alexis to touch her skin, bad enough that anyojne had to see it, but to touch it... When she had been with Mark it had seemed right, something she herself reviled in doing, now she just wanted to pull away but the strength wasn't there, just pain. The moment Alexis' fingers touched the tenderest spot above her heart, Annie's hands clenched and her voice whimpered out her answer, the edgest of blackness nearly closed inover her eyes for a moment, only to be beaten back by Annie's sheer will. In her nearly cleared vision she saw Alexis' draw back her hair, as hazy as her head was she knew what it meant.
" No... no... no..."
She murmured through the oxygen mask, fear rising and pushing her heart to pump faster, but that was just more pain. She didn't hear Alexis shout at Mark to quit wit the pacing, but it would have helped feel less self counsious about her self.

Alexis gently shushed Annie. She needed to relax. Calmly she ordered. "Give me 10 CC's of Morphine and a shot of Adenosine,"gently and efficiently she prepped Annie for surgery. "Annie I need to know who you want in the surgery?" Alexis lent over he twisted scared body placing her ear near her mouth. Swearing loudly as she noticed the lack of oxygen passing through Annie's lips. "Code Blue, Code Blue!" She yelled slamming the button whilst pulling the pillows off the bed as Tyler and the code team ran in. "Give me the paddles charge to two hundred." Tyler passed her the paddles, Alexis took a breath. "Clear." The shock jolted Annie's body. "She's flat-lineing. Charge to three hundred." She screamed. Pushing the paddles down. "C'mon Annie, Again." She lent back against the wall as Annie's eyes fluttered open."Welcome back to the land of the living," Alexis grinned ruefully as she continued to finish prepping her for Surgery.

It wasn't Alexis' fault that Annie took a allergic reaction to the morphine, that she didn't know? The EMT had failed to make the note, because Annie thought she had spoke loudly enough for them to hear her... but the oxygen mask had muffled her mouth, Mark's insistance to talk about her vitals rather than look at her, the noise of the ambulance... it all added up to one piece of vital information being unheard. Within moments the allergic reaction had sealed up her wind pipe, it didn't take long for her heart to give up, but by then the code blue had been called. By the time Annie, sapphire eyes opened up again, the world was warped for her. She heard Alexis', saw her but wasn't able to process the information her brain was telling her. What she was aware of was how hard it was to breath, of how exposed she was and her fear. Trying to speak, Annie's voice was nothing more than rasping gasp for oxygen, despite her own wishes about surgery if she wasn't under the knife soon her heart wasn't going to survive.

"Oh God," Alexis sighed finally reading Annie's chart realising her mistake. "give me 10 CC'S of benadryl and twenty CC's of dilaudid for the pain." She bent down facing Annie. "I need you to hold on for five minutes." It must have been her lucky day. She ran over to her bag that as usual she had carelessly flung into the corner of one the exam rooms, todays exam room of choice being this one. Hurriedly unzipping the bag she breathed a sigh of relief, there it was the warm buttery cover of the mastery of Cardiothoracic surgery. Crossing her finger she flipped it open to the section on aortas and arteries, running her fingers down the page until she reached the paragraph the documented Annie's rare condition. Alexis bit her lip she knew what her patient needed, a short term fix and a long laborious surgery to which Annie would never agree, "Give me diaphine and deoxribostar." I breathed quietly as a nurse handed me two syringes, silently counting down from three. As she reached one she lent out stabbing the two needles deep into Annie's heart. Having done all she could she collapsed against the wall.

Eyes partly open Annie could just hear Alexis' talk to her, asking her to hold on, she couldn't respond but she tried her best to do as she was asked but she was tired and it was so hard to breath. Suddenly it started to become easier as the Bendryl kicked in, there wasn't any pain either for her, more and more oxygen filled her lungs, easing the stress on her already stressed heart to provide for her body. It was an improvement but like the text book stated without surgery Annie wasn't going to survive, but in the end it was her choice. Her mind drifting, she felt the impact in her chest, the needles pushing past her thickened scarred skin and into her heart. She was out if it enough to feel disconnected. A minute passed, her mind rejoined her body as her heart settled to a safer but not perminate state. It would by time for Annie, make it possible to make her wishes audible. " Ni... Ju..."
Her voice spoke softly, muffled by the oxygen mask.

Alexis bent over to hear Annie's soft voice through the thick muffling of the oxygen mask. "Annie, what did you say? Annie?" Alexis moved her hands to Annie's throat carefully feeling for a pulse, counting the beats. Satisfied with her count she removed her hand looking down into Annie's large eyes.

The heavy lids blinked slowly, looking up at Alexis. Taking a slow deeper breath Annie musterted the strength to speak again. Her fingers moved slightlyfeeling the bed under her, she needed something to feel real.
" Ni...Ju... my son... I...want... my..."
She had to stop to take in another concentrated breath before she could manage to continue speaking.
" my... son. say... good... bye."
There was fear in Annie's eyes fear of what was going to happen, fear of what she would have to say to her little boy/

"No," Alexis flat out refused the request, no-ones saying goodbye because your going no-where. Annie everybody loves you for you, not because of some disease, and no-one will love you less because of it." She handed Annie the surgery consent form. "Sign here, here and initial here."

Slow tired eyes looked up at Alexis, reading her eyes and thus her soul. At heart Annie was a independant woman, she had to be because she was a single mother but by upbringing and inherited culture she was a woman of obidence, so on hearing the order to sign and inital Annie did it without thinking. Obidence was everything, her life, her people. Letting her hand fall after sigining in the flowling chicken scratch that was a combination of her doctor and japanese writting styles.
" My... mother... would like... you."
Annie musted a little smile, before letting her eyes close.

"Don;t you die on my Annie, Don't you dare die on me." Alexis helped heave the gurney out the door, up the elevator and into O.R 1. Alexis shook of the creepy feeling she had gotten when Annie looked into her eyes. It was like the older woman could read her soul. "Hopefully I'll get to meet your mother," Alexis thought as she asked for a ten blade and prepared to make her first incision. She was as Mark said a Sloan or at least as good as, and if anything a Sloan always got what they wanted no matter what. And Being a Karev, She was determined and knew how to play dirty, And Alexis knew as she carefully cracked open Annie's chest, what she wanted most in that moment. Was for Annie to survive and she wasn;t afraid to play dirty to get it.
