Time of death…. She heard the Chief call as Cristina walked out of the room. Izzie Stevens Karev had died right before her eyes and there was nothing that could have been done. Perhaps if they had respected the DNR, then she would have felt better but truth be told, she wasn’t much of a fan of DNRs. They felt like a cop out. Cristina was a doctor and wanted to save lives, not watch them fade away right in front of her. It didn’t seem to matter though did it? Izzie died anyway despite their efforts to keep her alive against her will. Having to pound her chest with the intent of her heart getting the general idea and working for itself, she stood in the room hearing Alex sob against the wall. That was a motivator but it still didn’t matter.
As she walked down the hallway, she heard one of the nurses talking to each other, speaking about Meredith. Stupid gossiping soccer moms, Cristina thought to herself as she continued to listen to the two. They mentioned the John Doe who had come in earlier was actually Dr. O’Malley. Cristina didn’t have the strength to run up to the OR and check in on another one of her fellow residents. Instead she turned to the nurses and barked out, “Don’t you two have band-aids to give out?” The hostility in her voice was obvious as she kept walking towards the stairwell, desiring a place to think.
When she walked into the stairwell, the sun shown brightly outside, obviously not mimicking the mood inside. Cristina sat down on the steps, thinking about what she could have done to save Izzie’s life and how the hell they didn’t realize the John Doe was George. Nothing made sense and things were suppose to make sense in a hospital. With a bolt of rage, kicked the step beneath her, grunting in frustration.

George was dead. Lexie had been around doing post-ops when she found out. The John Doe who Meredith told her was George had died and Lexie couldn't believe it. This day couldn't get any worse. Lexie had been walking around the hospital, her eyes bright red and her cheeks tear stained.
She walked up the stairs, not wanting to deal with people in the elevators of Seattle Grace gossiping. She saw Dr. Yang sitting all alone in the stairwell right in front of her, "Dr. Yang" she said, her voice breaking as she wiped her tears away.

Yeah it had been a bad day, which is why Cristina couldn’t even pretend like she cared about other people’s feelings. Most days, she had learned to muster up some kind of tolerance towards her interns and Lexie Grey in particular. She was after all Meredith’s little sister, albeit half sister. Though there was a time when Meredith couldn’t stand the girl and this gave Cristina extra incentive to be absolutely horrible to her. Even if she was mean to the younger woman, she had to admit, Lexopedia was smart and would likely go far in her career. One of the reasons why Yang became a little nicer to her over the years.
Today though, she did not want to be nice. She wanted to be mean. Very mean. Spotting Lexie’s red puffy eyes, Cristina scowled at her as if she had given the improper amount of morphine to a patient. ”Suck it up. Nothing is worse than seeing a doctor cry,” she snapped, standing up and placing her hands inside her coat pocket. The girl needed to grow up and stop being so clingy. Izzie had been too attached to Denny when he died…which is probably why she ended up seeing him as one of her hallucinations.

"Suck it up?!" Lexie shouted. She would have never shouted at her Resident no matter what but today was the exception. George was dead. She couldn't handle Yang being a bitch today. "SUCK IT UP?!" she screamed as she began to sob. Lexie fell to the steps and began crying. She knew Yang wouldn't possibly care about her or whatever was wrong with her.
Lexie whispered softly, "George is dead" she said as she looked up at Yang. She knew Yang was a hardass but there had to be some emotions trapped up inside of her.

Hearing the littler Grey yell at her was a first. Of course she had stood up to Cristina in the past but to have her yell at her resident? Well, that was certainly a first. Cristina respected her a little more than before but it didn’t matter because she still couldn’t stand anyone at that moment. Yeah, people were dying. It happened. This was a hospital. When she heard the young girl whisper that George was dead, even Cristina stopped fuming. He was actually dead? She wanted to yell at those nurses so badly. If he was dead, then how come they didn’t just say that! Word needed to travel quicker around this hospital.
“People die everyday,” she said with as much coldness as she possibly could. Emotions made you weak. Emotions made you weak, she kept repeating to herself. They couldn’t be weak now. There were still patients in this hospital who needed to stay alive. They were suppose to keep them alive! “Izzie died about fifteen minutes ago,” she informed Lexie.

Lexie gasped at Christina's coldness. She couldn't believe it that that had been her reaction. She looked deep into Yang's eyes and just sighed, "Cold hearted" she said in a soft voice. "I can't believe you're a doctor." she sighed as she started to walked away when Yang told her Izzie too was dead. "What?" she gasped as her tears began to fall down her face again.
"She's what? How?" she murmured softly, "I thought....hadn't Derek?" she paused as she slipped to the floor. "How's Alex?" she whispered softly.

That was all it took to cause Cristina to completely lose it. “What did you just say?!” she yelled, not caring if there were people walking from one level to the next. This intern had just challenged whether or not she should even be a doctor. “It’s because I don’t give a damn that I’m a good doctor! I don’t get wrapped up with patients! I do my job instead of crying like some little girl,” she informed the younger Grey, not caring at all that the people who had just died were….her friends. She’d never admit it out loud that they were her friends, but it was true. They had gone through tough times together. They were her friends.
Rolling her eyes as the naïve intern asked her how Izzie had died, Cristina shook her head. “It was a risk. She knew it could happen. Her body was just too weak,” snapping at her yet again. When she asked how Alex was, Cristina faltered. She watched Alex cry. Alex Karev…crying. It was something she never wanted to have to see again. “How do you think?” she asked, this time however, her voice was softer as she stared out the large window.

Lexie ignored all of Christina's shouting. She knew that showing the emotion was the way that Yang functioned but it was really pissing her off now, when both of their friends had died. People who had been through a hell of alot of things with both of them. Lexie sighed softly as she made her way to the top of the stair. "I've got to go Yang" she said as she walked toward the door that exited to the second floor. She was off to meeting with Mark by a secluded on call room.
