Allison held her head up high as she walked into the doors of Seattle Grace Hospital and up to the lobby of the surgical floor. She paused, taking a deep breath, and looking around. She had her brave face on. She would never show that she was scared or weak. She couldn't. Her job depended on her braveness, on her knowledge. She couldn't admit how badly her stomach churned every day since that tragic day. She couldn't admit how she lay awake at night, watching her daughter sleep. Memories of the shooter and how close she came to loosing her playing through her mind.
She had been meeting the Chief the day of the shooting. She hadn't been able to find a sitter, and since the meeting was only suppose to be an hour long, and she wasn't suppose to actually start work until the previous day she brought her daughter with her. She never knew that her life could have been taken. And now, as she walks up to the nurses station and takes a chart she sends up a quick prayer of thanks to whatever greater being there was up there, thankful that she, and her daughter had walked away without a scratch.
She smiled and walked over to one of the other interns. McKay. She knew her last name but she couldn't for the life of her remember her first…. this was possibly caused by the fact that her resident re named them numbers, and some of the other residents and or attendings that she has worked with just refer to them by their last names.
"Hi…" She said in a friendly tone. "I'm Allison, everyone calls me Ally." She said in a peppy, but not so peppy I want to kick your teeth in tone.

Glancing up wards, Annie smiled softly in return to Allison.
" Lady Annie, but Annie's just fine."
Bowing from her waist, she asserted her Japanese heritage. She was quite small in stature, with black hair that cascaded down her back, though it was arranged so that the right side of her face. Faintly though a deep scar that ran down her face, splitting the eye lid and distorting the cheek. Unusually for someone with Japanese heritage, she had sapphire blue eyes that were matched by the blue stoned pendant that hung around her neck. She had a long sleeved top under her scrubs, covering up her arms, and the part of her chest that would normally be revealed by the V-Neck of the scrub top. Annie had done her duty the day of the shooting, protecting her patients and concealing herself with the skill taught to her by her mother. The shots however had brought bad memories to her, she was near to collapse as her heart pounded in her chest. Once it had been over, she had gone home and curled up around her 8 year old son. Holding him close as she prayed to her Goddess with thanks for the life she still had.

Allison smiled at Lady, but then an odd question came to her mind, her expression was one of deep thought as she pondered the best way to ask her question without sounding rude or ill educated. Finally a solution came to mind.
"If your name is Lady…" She started carefully " Does that mean that you are like an haieress to a throne or a fortune or a princess of a forigne land?" She asked her voice kind but curious. She had never heard of anyone with the name Lady, and the only thing she could ever remember of people with the title of "Lady" had come from her history lessons of kings and queens in far away lands.
"I need a good surgery. I am dying here with the residents taking all of the good cases. The best I got to do today was stitching up a kids hand. Have you got to do anything interesting today?" She asked.

Annie tried not to laugh at Allison's question.
" Kind of. Lady is just my title, Annie is my name. My mother is a Baroness, as her eldest child I am her heir."
Leaning on the counter, Annie thought for a moment and sighed.
" Not much really, being doing scut most of the time. I'm trying to get in on one, but I think at this rate the only chance we have is if one of us becomes a surgery and I'm still up to date on my meds so don't try fluttering your eyes at me."
She joked a little, resting her head on the palm of her hand.

Allison laughed, she liked Annie's personality, and her sense of humor. She smiled at her, and then leaned too against the counter. A frown slowly replacing the smile on her graceful face as she appeared to be deep in thought.
"I just don't understand HOW they expect us to be able to become respectful surgeons much less know enough to pass the practical part of our intern exams when they arn't teaching us anything…." She trailed off, drumming her fingers on the counter.
"There has to be something we can do about it…" She thought aloud…and then as if a lightbulb went off in her head she looked up inspired.
"The residents are stealing all of the good surgeries you agree with me on this much right?" She asked quickly not waiting for an answer before she continued, pacing the floor beside Annie and thinking aloud as she paced.
"They won't let us do surgeries, they won't let us use the skills lab, they still our cadavers. There NOT teaching us how to pass our exams much less become a successful doctor." She paused for a moment looking up at Annie for dramatic effect, trying to read her expression, to see if she thought she had completely gone off the deep end yet.
"If they aren't going to teach us……we'll just have to teach ourselves." She finished, looking to Annie hoping that she would be in.

" Or we could just put in a complaint... bad together and go see the chief. "
Annie reasoned to Allison, taking yet another chart and started to work on it.
" It reflects badly on the Residences if we do badly in our exams, if we can even list a surgery we've been in. "
Turning around, she leaned on the counter and watch Allison.
" The whole point of us being assigned to a resident to learn, learning ourselves is limited to textbooks and observing. You want a surgery, you can't keep quiet about it and sneak about or anything."

Allison opened her eyes wide and looked at Annie, snitching on her resident was out of the question. Sh e spoke the next words before even thinking about them, an automatic memory of her past.
“Girl haven't you ever heard of 'Snitches get Stitches?” She asked her voice informative.
“I doubt any of the residents would get us murderedd, but they are incharge of our schedules and can make our lives a living hell. I am already working 2 full time jobs to pay my daughter's nanny, and keep food on the table. I'm not in debt, but there arn't enough hours in the day to do much else. I havn't seen my daughter awake in a week. I leave at 0430 in the morning and I don't get home until after she goes to sleep in the evenings. It wouldn't be so bad if I was actually doing something to make it worth it.”
“Come-on it would be fun!” Allison finally said in a playful tone. “We can gather other interns and do it in secret so we won't get into trouble with our residnts.”
“I'm a bit braver than you, but i'm not brave enough to snitch on our residents....my family needs me.”

" It would be foolish...plus last thing any one needs is scars."
Annie murmured, narrowing her eyes on to Allison. Brushing her hair aside she let Allison see the scar that destroyed her once pretty face.
" I did something, I thought it would be fun. Instead I ended up on life support for 6 months and pregnant."
Sighing heavly Annie pinched the bridge of her nose and closed her eyes.
" I will admit, I'm not so bad in terms of money like you. I haven't got time to waste on doing anything like secret surgery or anything. I won't go to the chief as a Intern, I will go as the Lady Annie, benefactor to this hospital."
Gracefully Annie rested her hand to her side and looked at Allison.
" I know you just met me, at least formally. But we're both single mothers. Please don't take this the wrong way, but if it would make it possible for you to spend more time with your daughter. I... I..."
Annie didn't know how to say this without sounding rude. Slowly she thought it through then sighed.
" I have a maid who looks after Ni ju for me, I would not mind if you were to leave your daughter in Orchid's care. You won't need to pay for her, so you won't need your second job,maybe... if it will help. "
