Legs folded on the bench, a needle in her hand with silver thread attached through it and a cloth shoe in her hand. Carefully the mental was passed through the fabric, adding a tiny perfect stitch. Annie was on a break, she had eaten her lunch of rice and fish and was now spending a little time to clear her mind before returning to the wards. Her black hair was plated and bundled up into a black hairnet, secured at the base of her neck. Annie was getting more used to not covering her face. Sloan had helped her with this issue, but she still remained shy and preferred to cover it up when meeting patients for the first time. Pulling the thread back through, she thought about exactly where to place the next stitch on the shoe. The other sat to the side, undecorated.

Calliope had had a bad day at work. She had been having bad days for a couple of weeks straight now actually. She was thinking about taking a few weeks off, she hadn't taken time off since the shooting. She had just eaten her lunch, and was now heading into her locker room to get changed. The chief had given her time off for a couple of days until she had decided what to do, her surgeries were being switched to another orthopaedic surgeon, apart from her non-emergen cases, which were just being postponed.
She took a deep breath in as she walked into the locker rooms, heading straight for her own, and opening it. She took her scrub top off, leaving her black long sleeved top on underneath. She rolled the sleeves of this top down, before looking around to check no-one else could see, so she could change into her jeans.
She spotted Annie, and smiled, walking over to her, watching her stitch for a moment, before saying,
"Hello Dr. McKay."

Threading the silver through till it tugged sightly at the fabric, Annie then glanced up at Callie.
" Dr Torres, how are you?"
She asked in her usual polite voice, setting the little shoe down on her lap.
" Taking a few moments to yourself or time to go?"
Sapphire eyes blinked softly, regarding Callie carefully. Respect and admiration for her sparkled in the jewel bright eyes that could easily be seen across a street on a dark night. The Scar, as it was referred to, by her fellow interns, was accented by a deep shadow.

Calliope smiled softly. She studied the scar on Annie's face with a smile. She felt Annie was extremely brave for living with it. Anyone else would immediately have corrective surgery, it took someone strong to live with it.
"I'm okay thanks. I'm going home. I've got a few days off now. I've been working non-stop since the... shooting. How are you?"
She smiled softly, her brown eyes slightly red from tiredness. She looked around a little, smiling. They were the only ones in the locker room. Callie was going to go home and tidy up a bit, sorting out Arizona's things as she moved in, then wait on her beautiful girlfriend returning home from work.

Blinking her eyes for a moment, Annie contemplated her response then shrugged slightly.
" Working mostly, charting for the other interns so they can trawl for surgeries. Only they get caught out and I get the surgery because I did the leg work and not them. And of course these."
Lifting the delicate half worked cloth shoe in her hand, the one she had neatly been working on.
" I'm just going to finish this moon on it and then come off my break."

Calliope nodded a little.
"Good. They look lovely. I'm heading home to get washed then unpack some of Arizona's things. She's moving in."
She smiled brightly, as she changed into her jeans. She was going to head home, unpack some of Arizona's boxes, then have a shower before taking a couple of hours to relax. After that she was planning on surprising her beautiful other half upon returning from work with a nice dinner for the two of them.

"I should hope so, they are my funeral shoes."
Annie said, pulling through another stitch with her fingers. She was careful not to prick her finger on the tip of the needle.
" Congratulations on you getting back together, you are a fantastic couple. Goddess blessings upon you both."
The smile that formed across her face was mostly genuine, but still Annie wished that she too could have such love as they did. She longed for a husband to provide herself a daughter and allow her to for fill her duty to her family.

Calliope smiled softly, but it turned into a frown.
"Funeral shoes?"
She asked softly, this confused her slightly. She smiled at the congratulations however, she blushed a little. She loved Arizona deeply, but they were also having problems at the moment. Arizona wasn't sure if she really meant what she had said that day. Calliope knew that this was a possibility, that the day had just shocked her. But Calliope really wanted to become a mom. She had told Arizona that if having kids meant she couldn't be with Arizona then she wasn't bothered about having kids... But having kids meant a hell of a lot to Calliope.

" Yes funeral shoes."
Annie affirmed, turning her eyes up slightly at Callie.
" You know how, when I'm not working, I don't wear shoes. It's because it's against my religion. It disconnects my soul from the world, so we keep our feet bare. I have to say prayers to reconnect my soul again, every time I take my shoes off at the end of my shift."
As she explained onward about her strange culture, her hands worked the needle in and out of the cloth shoe in her hand.
" We only wear shoes when we die or when we are about to die, otherwise our soul may not want to leave this world and allow it's self to be reborn into it's next life. We show these shoes with our hands, keeping them close to us encase we need them, each picture on the shoe tells of our life so that we may be given a new life appropriately."

Calliope nodded and smiled in understanding. She listened to Annie's explanation of why she was sowing funeral shoes. She sat down beside her, listening intently, intrigued. She studied over the pictures on the shoes. Annie was amazing at sowing like that. The shapes and pictures were perfect. She smiled softly.
"So what do the pictures on your shoes stand for? If you don't mind me asking..."
ooc:; so sorry it's short. I've had 1 hours sleep in the past 36 hours. 4 month old baby.

" Well the moon stands for the fact that I am a woman, becoming full with child and then empty again. This one is because I am a healer."
Annie said, pointing out two open hands with the sewing needle in her hand, a small bead of blood forming where in a stitch Annie had pricked her finger. She then indicated a image of a sleigh bell, etched into silver with her thread.
" This one is because I am a dancer."
Annie explained, then indicated a purple jewel she had embroidered.
"This is for my faith, the eye of the Goddess."

Calliope nodded a little, smiling softly as Annie pointed out the different symbols and their meanings.
"Wow. They're really pretty. I like them. They're a nice colour too."
She said softly, before turning around and standing up, she headed back to her locker, looking at her watch. She began to hurriedly sort her things out, taking a bottle of water out of the locker also, she took a drink then put it in her purse to take with her. She sighed softly.
"Sorry, I have to go now, but I'll see you later... Okay?"
She smiled softly, closing her locker over. She sighed softly and began to leave, heading for her car.
